A rare and fantastic Victorian vulcanite necklace  circa 1880. This necklace epitomizes the High Victorian Style- it is massive, over the top, sentimental and an innovative use of a new technology. What could be more Victorian? Set with round pendants - the center being a classic figure in profile connected by the open links. It even includes the original velvet ribbon closure!

About the material -  Vulcanite was created in the 1830's by the Goodyear company by combining tree rubber and sulfur and became popular with jewelry manufacturers due to its ability to imitate Jet, the a stylish, rare material at the time. It resembles a hard plastic. It should not be exposed to direct sunlight or hot water as that can damage the piece. Just clean gently with a cloth. Perfect for a gothic or romantic style.

Dimensions: Necklace measures 22 inches. Currently with a antique ribbon for closure.

Condition report: Necklace is in good antique condition with some fading and wear commensurate with age. Additional photos and videos available upon request.
