Victorian 9K Gold Buckle Hairwork Mourning Ring circa 1891
This ornate antique ring is hallmarked for production in 1891 - during the late Victorian period. Featuring an ornately decorated buckle design - a symbol of loyalty and fidelity - the interior of the 9k yellow gold band is set with braided hair. Often in mourning jewelry, hair is was also used for a variety of sentimental reasons. This ring is a beautiful example of High Victorian English jewelry.
Hallmarks: 9 .375 for 9K yellow gold, anchor assay for Birmingham UK, date letter "r" for 1891. Maker's mark "H&S"
