Georgian 9k Gold Carnelian Intaglio Roman Neoclassical Seal Fob
A wonderful example of Neoclassical design from the early 19th century ! Crafted out of 9k yellow gold and set with an carnelian intaglio of a classical figure, a man in profile, possibly Roman or Greek.
Seal fobs, sometimes singular sometimes in a cluster, were popular accessories that were used to both weigh down the end of pocket watch chains that were draped across a man's waistcoat and to seal wax for correspondence. Functional and stylish they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
Beautiful in in simplicity it makes a fantastic pendant!
