An absolutely charming antique sterling silver English brooch! It communicates a wonderful sentiment from over 100 year ago. Fully hallmarked for production in 1899, two hearts and joined together one reading "MIZPAH" "THE LORD WATCH BETWEEN ME & THEE WHEN WE ARE ABSENT FROM ANOTHER" and the other with a beautiful garland of ivy.

At a time when loved ones and couples could be separated for months or even years Mizpah was a popular sentiment, a Hebrew word meaning "watchtower" these tokens were exchanged between friends or lovers. The ivy too has symbolic meaning, symbolizing "I cling to thee".

A perfect romantic gift just as full of meaning as when it was crafted over 100 years ago.
