Art Nouveau C. 1900 Aquamarine and Gold Pendant
When Art Nouveau jewelry burst on to the scene in the late 19th and early 20th century its hard to overstate how radical it was. It was a completely new style based on ideas, materials and and designs which were a radical departure from the Victorian period that preceded it. Graceful, flowing lines - sinuous and asymmetrical mimicking the free flowing styles of the natural world were a hallmark of the style.
This excellent example - dating from circa 1900 is an exquisite pendant necklace. Set on a 16.5 in chain and beautifully crafted in yellow gold it features two dazzling aquamarines and a naturalistic leaf motif. The necklace comprises a central setting with fully articulated drop below that moves gracefully with the wearer.
